Students:

Welcome to American Government/Civics and Economics class. I am excited to be working with you all this year. I have prepared what I think is an interesting, exciting year of learning for you. We have much to cover, and so rules and procedures must be established to keep order in our class room. Always remember that my primary interest is in you and your success as a student, and as a contributing, participating citizen after graduation. Let’s work together to achieve that success!

Rules:

·         Follow school rules as explained in the Handbook.

·         Come to class prepared and on time

·         Ask permission to use the bathroom, get a drink or to go to the nurse using the appropriate pass.

·         Keep language, actions and comments appropriate for a classroom and work setting.  Mistreatment of others by actions or speech will not be tolerated.

·         No personal grooming during class

·         Have RESPECT – for the teacher’s property and space and for each other’s property and space

Classroom Procedures:

·         Come in quietly, sit down and follow instructions on board or overhead when you arrive.

·         Work quietly alone or in assigned groups as instructed.

·         Unless we are engaged in an open discussion, please raise hands to comment or answer questions.

·         Pencils and pens are available for borrowing. Collateral such as ID, keys, is required.

·         Pass papers in towards the front aisle.

·         Please place completed assignments in the appropriate box.

·         Look for graded assignments in the appropriate box.

·         The teacher dismisses the class.

Testing Procedures:

·         Tests are announced approximately one week ahead; quizzes, one or two days.

·         During a quiz or test there is to be no talking. (Even if you have completed a test, this should not occur)

o        First offense – warning.

o        Second offense – 20% reduction in grade on the quiz or test.

o        Third offense – 50% reduction in grade and discipline referral.

Absences:

·         It is your responsibility to obtain any work missed from the makeup work folder and get notes and directions from a classmate or teacher assistant.

·         All missed work, including tests and quizzes, must be made up within three school days of your return.  Extended absences may be allowed more time.

·         Absences may result in an alternative assignment, test, or quiz.

·         Being absent the day before a test or quiz does not excuse you from taking it!

Other procedures will be added as our year progresses.

Assignments and Grading:

Your grade will have two components - 90 % is Academic, and 10% is Employability.
