Building Trades Maintenance is a collage of different trades.  In this lab you will learn to make repair and remodel residential and commercial buildings.  One area is carpentry where the students learn to read blueprints, specifications and codes, utilize scaffolds and ladders, perform work site work, construction footings/foundations/forms, frame the floor/wall/ceiling and roof, install roof coverings, construct and install exterior finish, install insulation, moisture and radon control construct interior finish and stairs. In masonry students learn to work with tile, brick, concrete, block and stones on their way to becoming entry level masons. 

We also learn about concrete. In painting the students learn to protect adjacent surfaces, prepare a container of paint for painting, stir paint with a paint paddle, strain paint with a cheese cloth strainer, scrape paint from a curved surfaces with a scraper, hand sand new wood with a sanding block and cut in the exterior of windows.  In plumbing and heating the students develop skills in steel/iron pipe, copper pipe and tubing, cast-iron pipe, plastic pipe, rough plumbing, plumbing codes, finished plumbing, fundamentals of electricity and finally learn to diagnosis problems in heating areas.  In the electrical component of Building trades the students are taught to install a duplex and split wired duplex and receptacle, a single pole switch, and a ground fault.  Finally, in all that we do safety is first.
