(On a percentage basis, this is the Least Known but Most Chosen class at LCTI.)
Manufacturing consists of highly specialized processes to produce a product, and precision machining is the core or base of manufacturing. Commonly known items such as airplanes, automobiles, computers, medical equipment, televisions, and electronic equipment are all products that utilize precision machining. Almost every product we enjoy in our modern society is manufactured.
Who would ever imagine that PPL employs machinists? Yet PPL has used our school facilities to train their workers.
When you drive past companies such as Stroh's Brewery, Kraft Foods, and General Electric, you probably visualize bottles of beer, cheese, or TVs and toasters. However, beyond those front doors you will find manufacturing equipment equal to the state-of -the-art precision machine shop at LCTI.
Highly skilled technicians such as machinists and tool and die makers help design and make parts for manufacturing. Most plants are very clean and air-conditioned, and use modern computerized machines to make precision parts.
