The objective of this program is to prepare students to work in an office environment. This person is the foundation that keeps the office running. Software programs taught include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher. Students work to increase keyboarding speed and accuracy. Accounting starts with the accounting cycle for a proprietorship. Topics covered include recording transactions in a general journal, financial statements, and adjusting and closing entries. Advanced accounting topics include using special journals and preparing payroll records. Computerized accounting is introduced using QuickBooks Pro. A section on Entrepreneurship is also offered. The requirements of business ownership will be discussed. An opportunity to develop a business plan and learn how to market a business is included. Workshops on Teamwork, Speaking, and Presenting are also used to give students skills needed in today’s workforce. Some possible job titles include receptionist and information clerk, medical secretaries, legal secretaries, executive secretaries and administrative assistants, and accounting clerk. LCTI has articulation agreements in this field with Lehigh Carbon Community College. This course of study prepares students for numerous career opportunities. |
