SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Challenged with using the skills they acquired in class to devise ways to make the world a little greener, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students delivered.

Working in groups and competing for prizes, Green Team students from several LCTI programs developed projects that highlight clean energy, earth-friendly design, recycling and more. Members of the top three teams each earned iPad minis as prizes…and bragging rights. All the Green Team competitors received participation certificates, LCTI logo mugs and electronic device chargers.

Marketing & Business Education students Tina Sanchez and Ashley Feliciano, both of Emmaus High School, organized the Green Team competition to serve as a public relations project for this spring’s DECA State Career Development Conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania. With assistance from their instructor, Cyndee Barkley, and Supply Chain Management & Logistics Technology instructor John Shaner, the girls announced the winners on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Also, School-to-Career coordinator Joe Baylog served as a project judge.

The SOC Indoor/Outdoor Maintenance team finished in third place with a project that analyzed the recycling process and how it impacts the environment. The team members are Jeffrey Pennycoff, Melissa Vogel and Cheyenne Mack.

The Drafting/Computer-Aided Design team finished in second place by creating a hotel model that highlighted sustainable design techniques. The team members are Justin Baumann, Alyssa Hersh and Harrison Williams.

The Electrical Technology team finished in first place with a bicycle-powered generator that contrasted the efficiency of incandescent, halogen, CFL and LED light bulbs. The team members are Ian McFarland, Del Barket and Doug Kuhns.

Congratulations to our top three finishers and kudos to all LCTI students who participated in the Green Team competition!
