SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. |  The holidays are here and Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students recently tackled a project that will make the season bright for the region’s elderly and disabled residents.

With a little hot glue and a lot of heart, Health Occupations students in Instructor Jackie Gannon’s class on Tuesday, Nov. 24, made miniature wreaths from jar lids, twine and ribbon. They also used a hole punch and ribbon to embellish paper snowmen, gingerbread men and other fun cutouts.

The wreaths and cutouts are meant to serve as Christmas tree ornaments or as another form of holiday decor.

The homemade items were donated to Lehigh County Meals on Wheels. The charitable organization’s volunteers intend to distribute them with meals throughout the holiday season.

Students also filled out holiday cards for the American Red Cross’ Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. The campaign encourages members of the public to share thanks, encouragement and holiday cheer with members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and military families who may be far from home this season.

Careers in health care account for 12 of the nation’s 20 fastest growing occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
