SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Lehigh Career & Technical Institute on Thursday (Nov. 2) welcomed more than a thousand people to the school’s annual Open House.

Prospective students and their parents spent the evening exploring LCTI’s career and technical education program labs and Academic Center classrooms. At each stop on their journey, visitors received “passport” stamps they could use to claim prizes including backpacks, cellphone accessories, mood bracelets, stadium cups and water bottles.

Meanwhile, current students showed off their technical skills and past handiwork to family members and friends. They also led activities and performed demonstrations for guests.

Students in Pre-Engineering & Engineering Technology teamed up with students in Commercial Baking, for example, to run a robot that served 500 cupcakes during Open House. Masonry students shared tricks of the trade as guests tried out laying brick. And in Painting & Decorating, students converted their lab into spooky funhouse

Students from several programs sold low-cost goods and services during Open House. Cosmetology students offered five-dollar manicures and blowouts, Applied Horticulture students sold seasonal lawn ornaments for just $7, Marketing & Business Education students held School Store clearance sale and students from Commercial Baking, Culinary Arts and SOC Food Services sold a variety of sweet and savory treats.

At 7 p.m., guests were invited to attend an information session led by Career Pathways Advisor Colleen Fahey and learn how LCTI helps students get more out of high school. The 20-minute session featured Jody-Ann Young, a Plumbing & Heating program alumna recently featured in a CBS Sunday Morning story about the critical need for skilled construction workers.

All guests who RSVP’d online ahead of Open House claimed free LCTI T-shirts in the main lobby, as well as free tickets for the iPad raffle. The lucky raffle winners were Whitehall Middle School eighth-grader Kristine Landis and Springhouse Middle School eighth-grader Ela Garza. Both girls took home a brand new iPad valued at $329. Congratulations, Kristine and Ela!
