SUCCESS STORIES

Joshua is a computer whiz who’s always known he wants to work in the tech industry. Lehigh Career & Technical Institute helped the Catasauqua High School senior narrow his focus.

He checked out Drafting/Computer-Assisted Design, Computer & Networking Technology and Web Design/Web Programming during rotations, a six-week period new students spend exploring three of LCTI’s career and technical education programs. Ultimately, Joshua chose Web Design because he enjoys graphic design and likes how the program melds art with technology.

Web Design instructor Joe Peregrin describes Joshua as an information technology genius and says “From design, to programming, Josh has it covered in topics that include HTML, CSS, C++, C#.”

Joshua also takes his academics at LCTI and says all of the school’s instructors encourage students to pursue projects that excite them. For him, that meant creating an automated system that scans student ID cards so teachers can keep tabs on how long they’re outside the classroom with hall or bathroom passes.

“The teachers at LCTI take time to learn their students and what they need to be able to work better,” Joshua says. Along with 40-plus CTE programs, LCTI has an Academic Center that offers English, math science, social studies and physical education courses for full-day students.

After graduation, Joshua plans to study computer science at Lehigh Carbon Community College before transferring to a four-year school. “I want to be a software engineer and, hopefully, move out to North Carolina or California,” he says.
