Veterans Day: LCTI honors staff members who served

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Lehigh Career & Technical Institute marked Veterans Day by honoring staff members who served in the U.S. military.

LCTI’s eight veterans were treated to breakfast in the main office conference room and their names were announced during Wednesday’s morning announcement. In addition, the school’s Commericial Photography instructor, David Aretz, snapped photos of LCTI’s veterans. These photos will be displayed on campus throughout the day.

LCTI’s veterans are:

Anastasio is a Navy veteran and achieved the rank of equipment operator, third class. His served in the Naval Construction Forces (Seabees).

DiGerlando is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of sergeant (E-5). He served as a fire direction and control specialist and an operations noncommissioned officer, spent more than two years in Germany and earned a Good Conduct Medal.

  • RACHEL HEILMAN, Intervention Assistant

Heilman is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of staff sergeant. She served as a military police officer, a DARE officer and a detachment sergeant. Her deployments included Bosnia, Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Heilman earned a Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendations Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and an Overseas Service Ribbon.

  • DAN KOTRAN, Facilities Engineer

Kotran is a Navy veteran and achieved the rank of petty officer, second class. He swabbed the decks, painted and maintained heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems aboard the ship. Kotran was named Sailor of the Quarter.

Mericle is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of sergeant. He served as a combat engineer.

  • SCOTT PIERCE, Systems Administrator

Pierce is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of specialist. He served in the military police.

Shaner is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of lieutenant. He served in the infantry.

Wisniewski is an Army veteran and achieved the rank of sergeant. He served as an infantry squad leader, trained in armored vehicles and worked as a weapons instructor.

Wisniewski earned a Good Conduct Medal, an Army Commendation Medal,  an Armed Forces Medal, and American Defense Medal, an Overseas Service Medal, a Korean Defense Medal, a Korean Service Medal and a National Defense Medal.
