An important message from LCTI’s administrative team

Dear LCTI Families,

Lehigh Career & Technical Institute is committed to providing students with an excellent education in a learning environment where students are safe and feel secure. Recent events have frustrated our ability, but not our resolve to meet this commitment.

LCTI and our education partners are working closely with Pennsylvania State Police to quickly identify the source of threat reports that led to closures or lockdowns on consecutive schooldays: Friday, Nov. 11, Monday, Nov. 14 and Tuesday, Nov. 15. State police conducted thorough searches of LCTI on all three days and found no weapons, on-campus activity or other evidence to corroborate the threat reports. In addition, no students were injured or required medical care during the incidents.

In light of the closures on Friday and Monday, state police were already at LCTI as a precaution when the alleged threat was reported on Tuesday. Their immediate action helped us avert another closure.

Students struggling with feelings triggered by the incidents on Friday, Monday and Tuesday are encouraged to seek help from our school counselors. Counselors are available to meet with students as needed during the schoolday this week. All students should check Schoology for online assignments from Friday and Monday.

While LCTI’s curricula work best with in-person instruction, the highly effective virtual tools we developed early on in the coronavirus pandemic allow our teachers to easily share assignments online. Questions or concerns about Schoology assignments should be directed to students’ teachers.

State police are collaborating with municipal police and federal authorities in their ongoing investigation of the threat reports, which were made via Safe2Say Something, the state’s anonymous tip hotline. Police have assured us that if any threat reports were made in bad faith, the person or persons responsible will be identified and brought to justice. Making false reports to law enforcement is a crime punishable with prison time and a fine in Pennsylvania.

The last few days have been trying for everyone in the LCTI community, especially students, parents and staff. We are tremendously grateful for your understanding and support as we navigate this unprecedented situation.

Sincerely,

The LCTI Administrative Team
