This chart is designed to help students and parents understand the educational and physical expectations and/or recommendations for the CAP Electrical Technology program at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute.

Program Safety & Physical Considerations

  • Ability of a high degree of self-discipline and focus needed for safety around moving equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment found in the industry
  • Due to the risk of electrical shock and fire hazards, using equipment requires self-discipline and strict adherence to rules to ensure safety of self and others
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Physical strength and stamina with the ability to lift 50 lbs overhead
  • No fear of heights or working in closed spaces
  • Ability to work in dust, dirt, and debris, loud and sometimes startling noises, ongoing background noise, moving people and equipment
  • Ability to work in small spaces, interior or exterior work factors/environmental factors, scaffolding and ladders

  • Eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Finger dexterity
  • Manual dexterity, multi-limb coordination while standing, sitting, or lying down
  • Arm and hand steadiness

Reading & Language Arts Levels

  • College Prep Reading and Language Arts  (text and manuals written on a 12th grade level)
  • Technical reading and writing skills
  • Adequate oral and written communication skills
  • Follow oral and written instructions

Math Level

  • Basic Math Level
  • College Prep Algebra I
  • College Prep Geometry
  • Ability to estimate and measure size, distances, and quantities; and determine time, costs, resources or materials needed to perform a work activity
  • Ability to calculate and use electrical mathematical concepts and properties

End of Year – 12th Grade Assessment Test

Industry Certifications

  • Students will have the opportunity to earn industry certifications in the program

Cooperative Education

  • Students who meet all the requirements, including teacher recommendation, grades, attendance, and discipline record
  • Students must provide their own transportation to and from the job site
