Electricians, HVAC technicians and plumbers are among the skilled workers most commonly sought by Architecture & Construction employers in the Lehigh Valley. A nationwide construction worker shortage exacerbated by the pandemic is making them hard to find.

That’s bad news for employers, but good news for folks with the specialized training necessary to fill these positions and earn anywhere from $35,000 to $75,000 annually. Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s adult education department offers the courses you need to become one of these in-demand and well-paid workers.

Our construction course offerings include:

Cabinetmaking & Millwork

Students learn to transform wood into furniture, as well as how to install cabinets, countertops and more. They master hand tools and power tools while training in a lab outfitted with industry-standard equipment like a CNC machining center and a European sliding saw.

Electrical Technology • Residential Wiring & Electricity

Students learn the skills they need to light up American homes and businesses. Working in a course lab outfitted with Amatrol trainers and industry-standard equipment, they tackle projects designed to mimic real-life situations on their way to earning credentials that impress employers.

Heating/Air Conditioning & Refrigeration • Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning

Students learn to install, maintain and repair the complex heating and cooling systems that keep our homes or offices at the optimal temperature. They train in a lab outfitted with appliances made by Carrier, Goodman, Honeywell, Trane and other big-name HVAC manufacturers.

Masonry

Students first learn to cut bricks and block, mix mortar and lay courses with a variety of brick bonds. Later, they advance to building arches, chimneys, columns and other brick features while laying the foundation for success in a variety of careers, including brickmason, concrete finisher, stonemason and tile setter.

Plumbing & Heating • Plumbing Pre-Apprenticeship

Students learn the hands-on skills they need to install and service plumbing systems in residential settings. And thanks to LCTI’s partnership with Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors of the Lehigh Valley, they can earn credits toward a plumbing apprenticeship.

Many of our courses are offered on weekday evenings and weekends, so adult students can meet their personal obligations while pursuing professional goals. Plus, LCTI offers scholarships for students facing financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic and we’re approved for a variety of financial aid sources.
