Capstone students visit Da Vinci Science Center

Danica Funk visited Da Vinci Science Center on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 for professional development through her cooperative education employer.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — While many of their peers were home relaxing on President’s Day, future teachers Danica Funk and Kyleigh Moyer spent the federal holiday preparing for career success.

Danica and Kyleigh visited Da Vinci Science Center on Monday for a professional development session with coworkers at Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers. The girls are Lehigh Career & Technical Institute seniors from Northwestern Lehigh and Whitehall high schools, respectively, who both study Early Childhood Education. They work at LVCC through LCTI’s Academic Center Capstone cooperative education program.

Danica and Kyleigh had a blast exploring the center’s new downtown location. They especially enjoyed engaging with Da Vinci’s Lehigh River Watershed and My Body exhibits. The experience was a perfect springboard for developing effective science, technology, engineering and math lessons for preschoolers.

This is how we innovate! #weinnovate

Danica and Kyleigh are two of 27 students in the Capstone program, which allows qualified seniors to maximize the hours they spend immersed in work-based learning. Capstone students typically spend one day a week in the Academic Center and the remaining four days working for a school-approved employer.

Capstone seniors are among 130 students getting resume-building experience and establishing industry connections through LCTI’s cooperative education programs, which are supported by 85 Lehigh Valley employers.
