My name is Mr. Eck and I’m a Supply Chain Management & Logistics Technology teacher at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute.
I went to Emmaus High School and it seems like 100 years ago now. After graduating from Emmaus, I went to Penn State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in business logistics. Recently, I earned a Master of Education in career and technical education/industrial education from Temple University. I have an OSHA certification in general industry and acquired powered industrial truck (forklift) driving certification, as well.
I spent nearly 35 years working in various logistics positions before becoming an instructor here at LCTI in 2010. I managed North American and/or global logistics operations in various industries including food, hi-tech, telecommunications, third-party logistics (3PL) and contract office furniture. During my time in industry, I was fortunate to have traveled to more than a dozen countries: Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Israel, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. I have some great stories about my travels that I love to share with students as well.
I was managing Northeast USA hi-tech parts distribution for various companies in 2001 when the planes hit the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. I managed a few facilities in north New Jersey and New York City including a small operation at ground zero. Luckily, no one from the teams of people that I managed got hurt. I am particularly proud of the collaborative work we did side by side with companies like UPS, Hewlett Packard, Xerox and others to get New York City’s infrastructure up and running again….without cellphone service either! The cell tower was on top of the World Trade Center. I am still proud of what my team was able to do!
I love watching students progress personally and professionally as they develop future goals during their time at LCTI. I feel good about contributing and doing my part to build the future of America.
