ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Workforce Lehigh Valley shone a spotlight this week on nontraditional career and technical education students from across the region.
They welcomed four nontraditional students each from Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, Career Institute of Technology and Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs game on Wednesday (June 17) at Coca-Cola Park. Students and their guests enjoyed club-level seats and a buffet. They also got the opportunity to network with employers in their future career fields.
The nontraditional students who represented LCTI were Madison Dunn, a Northwestern Lehigh High School senior in the Small Engines/Rereational Vehicle Repair program, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Luther, a Southern Lehigh High School senior in the Auto Technology program, Geneva Orth, a home-schooled senior in the Criminal Justice program, and Melanie Schmidt, a Northwestern Lehigh senior in the Welding Technology program.
Any career with less than 25 percent of one gender represented is considered nontraditional. LCTI offers many programs that prepare students for successful nontraditional careers. Men and women who enter nontraditional career fields have increased income potential and stand apart from other job candidates.
Kudos, Madison, Lizzy, Geneva and Melanie! This is how we achieve! #weachieve
