Heavy Equipment & CDL

This program combines tractor trailer driving and heavy equipment operations to provide students with highly marketable skills for the construction industry. The CDL course is divided into classroom theory, lab instruction, one student–one truck driver training sessions, and a skills exam. Equipment is comparable to current industry standards. The program is taught by instructors with years of safe driving experience. Heavy Equipment Operations combines classroom theory and field training. The hands-on practical experience includes safety, maintenance, basic operating procedures and techniques for major types of heavy equipment. Students will operate a backhoe/loader, dozer, hydraulic excavator, track loader, rubber tire loader, skid-steer loader and soil compactor. Other topics include basic surveying skills, blueprint reading, and establishing grades with the use of transits and lasers, erosion control methods, and loading and securing techniques for hauling equipment. Upon successful completion of the complete program, the student will receive certificates of completion, competency report, a CDL/A license, and industry-recognized credentials for OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training and PennDOT Flagger Training.
