Introduction to Plumbing

PROGRAM OUTLINE

This certificate program prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the residential plumbing trade. The curriculum offers a basic framework of plumbing theory and provides the hands-on skills needed to install, service and maintain plumbing systems in residential settings. Class includes instruction on safety, tool and material selection, methods to join and adapt pipe and fittings, fixture installation, and inspection and maintenance of plumbing systems. Students will have the opportunity to complete the OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety training. Through a partnership with Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors of the Lehigh Valley (PHCCLV) students will have the opportunity to job shadow with member companies, receive employment assistance, and earn credit towards the PHCCLV Apprenticeship program.

  2. Tool and equipment identification, use, and maintenance
  3. Basic math skills
  4. Copper tube and fittings
  5. Steel/iron pipe and fittings
  6. Plastic pipe and fittings
  7. Cast iron pipe and fittings
  8. Fixtures
  9. Basic installation and maintenance practices
  10. Basic electricity
  11. Plumbing codes
  12. Employability skills
