LCTI instructors color, shave hair for SkillsUSA fundraiser

Head of the Class fundraiser

Keith Lyons, top, and Kevin Keeler

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Six teachers went head to head this spring in Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s Head of the Class fundraiser for the school’s SkillsUSA chapter.

Each instructor agreed to do something wild and crazy to their hair in exchange for tickets that students purchased with cash. Throughout March, students visited the main office lobby to deposit their tickets in sealed jars representing each of the six teachers.

By month’s end, students had raised $551 for SkillsUSA. Painting & Decorating instructor Keith Lyons and Heating/Air Conditioning & Refrigeration instructor Kevin Keeler were the top money makers, hauling in $235 and $201, respectively. Culinary Arts instructor Brock Cahoon, Diesel Medium & Heavy Truck Technology instructor Randy Schock, CAP Building Trades Maintenance instructor Steve Ring and Web Design/Web Programming instructor Joseph Peregrin also participated in the competition, raising a combined $115.

Mr. Lyons, who vowed to shave his head and color his beard if he finished in first place, made good on that promise April 5. Second-place finisher Mr. Keeler also stepped up to color all the hair on his head, eyebrows included. A trio of Cosmetology students helped the instructors’ with their daring new hairdos as students from the instructors’ programs looked on (and giggled).
