SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s Commercial Baking students marked Fastnacht Day by frying up 150 dozen of the Pennsylvania Dutch treats.
That’s right, they made 1,800 fastnachts on Tuesday (Feb. 28) to fill staff and student orders. Led by program instructor Janice Lucas and instructional assistant Alicia Levan, students prepared sugared, powdered, glazed and plain fastnachts.
The Bake Shop at LCTI sold the potato doughnuts for $5 per dozen. Proceeds from the sale benefit the program.
It was an especially busy day for baking students, who also prepared 400 caramel and red velvet cupcakes for that evening’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Cupcake Wars.
