LCTI team places first at SkillsUSA competition

Two Lehigh Career & Technical Institute teams placed among the top three in the 2023 SkillsUSA District 11 Championships Welding Fabrication competition. All six members of the first- and third-place teams posed for a photo after learning the results.

EXTON, Pa. | Two Lehigh Career & Technical Institute teams won first and third place Monday (Dec. 19, 2022) in the SkillsUSA District 11 Championships Welding Fabrication competition at Universal Technical Institute.

The first-place team members are Emmaus High School students Brandon Confer, Mason DiGiacomo and Ehtan Schmeltzle. Along with bragging rights, the win earned them a $5,000 scholarship for Universal Technical Institute.

The team of Carlee Bernd, of Southern Leigh High School, Jacob Dean, of Louis E. Dieruff High School, and Jackson VanNorman, of Northern Lehigh High School, finished in third place and won a $2,000 scholarship from the trade and technical school.

All six students are in LCTI’s Welding Technology program.
