SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Lehigh Career & Technical Institute partnered with Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Friday to host a successful blood drive.

LCTI’s chapter of HOSA, a student organization whose members plan to pursue careers in the health care industry, organized the event, which garnered donations from 48 students and staffers.

Typically, LCTI’s annual blood drive is held in the spring. In an effort to boost the Lehigh Valley’s waning blood supply, Miller-Keystone asked HOSA to switch the event from May to January, according to HOSA advisor and Dental Technology instructor Cindy Heil.

The blood drive couldn’t have come at a better time, falling during National Blood Donor Month and a day before Winter Storm Jonas crippled the East Coast and left Miller-Keystone’s blood stores critically low.

Friday’s event also served as a learning opportunity for HOSA members who are enrolled in LCTI’s Emerging Health Professionals and Health Occupations programs. They got to watch nurses in action during the blood drive.

Kudos to LCTI students and staff who helped save lives by donating blood!
