Who are you and what’s your role at LCTI?

My name is Mr. Aretz and I’m the Commercial Photography/Electronic Imaging teacher at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute.

What’s your educational background?

I have an Associate in Arts Degree from Northampton Community College and an Associate Degree in Applied Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Graphic Arts and Photography. I earned both my BEQ in Career & Technical Education and my Professional Certificate for Vocational II Instruction from Temple University. I’m certified to teach Commercial Photography by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

What’s your professional background?

I have extensive experience as a corporate, industrial and advertising photographer for various companies, including seven years as a corporate staff photographer for a Fortune 500 company. I owned my own commercial photography business for many years, specializing in product, advertising, public relations, editorial, portrait and events. This is my 16th year of teaching at LCTI, which includes five years as a SkillsUSA advisor.

What’s your claim to fame?

My students have won several SkillsUSA first place state awards, and in 2013 my student won a first place National Skills competition award. Many of my students have won gold key awards in Regional Scholastic Art competitions, and recently my student won a silver medal National Scholastic Art award. On a personal note, I have been a longtime runner and have run in many local and regional races, in addition to completing seven full marathons, including New York City, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia.

What do you love about working at LCTI?

The great part about working at LCTI is each day helping students recognize their own unique talent and perspective and giving them the technology tools and direction to help them build a successful foundation. I also love watching the students create works of visual art, and I’m always impressed by their unique creativity.
