Who are you and what’s your role at LCTI?

My name is Ms. Lucas and I’m the Commercial Baking teacher at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute.

What’s your educational background?

I have a Certificate VOC II – Commercial Baking & Culinary Arts and I’m a ServSafe certified instructor.

What’s your professional background?

I became a bakery manager at 18 and opened up my own bakery at 19. I owned that bakery until I was 26. I began substitute teaching in a baking program on Mondays (when the bakery was closed). I began teaching full time when I was 26 at Reading Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center. I had to sell my business, but I got the best of both worlds — running a lab and training many employees! I came to LCTI to start up the Commercial Baking program. I taught Level 1 Culinary Arts until the Commercial Baking program was established.
I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge with anyone. I love when students have that “ah ha” moment!

What’s your claim to fame?

In 2013 I received the Loretta Woodson Award for unselfish service and exemplary teaching. The award is given by Pennsylvania Association of Retirees.

What do you love about working at LCTI?

I came to LCTI to establish a new program. Since then I have met so many staff members that have come and gone. Staff members are always friendly and helpful with ANYTHING. I have a kitchen like no other career and technical school. I have everything I need to teach and inspire my students. Lastly, I am an instructor that aspires to ignite the imaginations and talents of my students. I enjoy watching and seeing projects happen as my student grow with skill and knowledge.
