Two Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students were honored this month for their outstanding artwork during the region’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards ceremony at Kutztown University.

Caleb Knotts, a Whitehall High School freshman in LCTI’s Advertising Design/Commercial Art program, won both a Gold Key and a Jury Award for his pen and ink drawing, “Over Heaven.” There were more than 650 entries and only one other piece received a Jury Award in the East Central Pennsylvania art region.

Students awarded Gold Keys at the regional level go on to compete with their peers across the country, with top winners receiving an exhibition in New York City and a ceremony at Carnegie Hall.

Anne Langan, an Allentown Central Catholic High School junior in the Advertising Design program, won Honorable Mention for her painting titled, “Green Beetle.”

Caleb and Anne’s artwork was displayed at Kutztown’s The Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery ahead of the March 5 awards ceremony. Advertising Design teacher William Childs joined them for the special event.

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. The East Central Pennsylvania art region includes Berks, Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties.
