LCTI students qualify for DECA state competition

Caidance Braun finished second in the Chapter Banner contest.

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. | Thanks to a strong showing in last month’s district competition, 29 students from Lehigh Career & Technical Institute’s DECA chapter qualified for the state contest.

This year’s Pennsylvania DECA District 7 Conference was a virtual event because of the coronavirus pandemic; competitors took tests and joined in role-play scenarios online. Lehigh DECA advisor Cyndee Barkley is proud of how her students performed at the district level and confident they’ll be ready to compete at the Pennsylvania DECA Career Development Conference in February. That event will be virtual, as well.

“Our competition format was different this year. Our members rose to the challenge and brought home medals,” said Barkley, who is also LCTI’s Marketing & Business Education teacher. “Now they’re preparing for the next level of competition.”

Thirty-five students from LCTI’s Advertising Design/Commercial Art, Marketing & Business Education and Supply Chain Management & Logistics Technology programs competed in the district conference. The state conference qualifiers are:
